OK

Over a year ago, I made a trophy for our boy's hoops coach for winning the sectional. It had been 10+ years since our boys had won. Yes he is the same guy who was the victim of the photochop project.

Anyhow. I had a thread in the former joint we all visited. I never got a final photo of the end product.

I made a replica basketball court from the hardwood from our old high school. I climbed up the ladder, cut some net, and threw my trainer's shears on the boards to create the trophy. With the help of the school art teacher(who was my art teacher when I was in kindergarten), and the Latin teacher who has all sorts of boards at his house from the old school. I threw this together.

Well the jerk never gave the trophy back to me so I could finish putting several layers of wipe on poly over the boards and the detailing sticker stuff, so the letters on the baseline started to peel off. Well I got the trophy back, put about 5 more layers of poly on the thing and I think it looks pretty sweet.

Looks cool. Are the scissors and net glued to it?

nope

The shears are attached with a screw/bolt. They actually have a smaller screw in them naturally, so I took them apart, found a matching, longer screw and counter sunk it via a paddle bit, using the nut that is always been on them.

The net is just looped over the end of the shears.

This is a "standard" type trophy most collegiate trainers get/make with the shears and net if their team makes it to the NCAA tournament and big stuff like that. I had a traditional plaque made for our old boy's coach back in the late 90's when they won the sectional. Just something I do.

Can you explain the significance of the shears? I don't get it.

^^^ the scissors they use to cut down the net when they win it all.

Yep...what he said.

Basically in basketball, every time you advance in the tournament, the winning team cuts down the nets.

So there is a net cutting with all the team/fans/suits/parents/etc, all standing around as each player climbs the ladder, scissors in hand, and cuts down a chunk of the net after the sectional/regional/semi-state and state championships.

Thanks. I had no idea about that. BBall isn't my thing.
