Cabinets

I think I found a decent set of cabinets. 9 of them for $200. They are a cherry finish but a little beat up on the sides. Id like to sand them down and restain them or pain them. Am I right on with this thinking , is it fairly easy to do??????????

Are they solid cherry or a veneer or something?
Shouldn't be hard to refinish, depending if they have stain, paint, or other material on them. If they are veneer, then you only have so much material to work with in refinishing.
