Pretty sweet.
This isn't going to be an entrance to the room, just a hidden liquor shelf, right?
If so, I think I'd rather a slide than a hinged door...

That was my thinking as well, I'm still digging on google for sliding version but I figured I'd post up that link in case anyone else was interested.

Think sliding closet door... just hide the top rail inside the ceiling sheetrock and maybe cover it up with a piece of decorative trim...

Now you just triggered my brain into overdrive.
Doing it like you said and then using some sort of trim all the way around should work and make it fairly well concealed to people who don't know its there. At the bottom of the liquor shelves I could have some sort of rollers that the back side of the sliding door rest against so that it doesn't swing back and forth and it slides easily with the weight of books or whatever on it.

...or a bottom rail too. If its going to be behind a bar or something, you don't need to cover up the floor rail, but if its going to be out in the open, yeah, you'll probably want to do some other type of stop...
What about a "peg" that goes into the floor to keep if from swaying? The "peg hole" will be covered up by the bookshelf itself when "closed"... You can rig up a little lever to release the peg and allow the bookshelf to slide, exposing to liquor shelves behind. And then you could put the rollers on the back to facilitate movements...
I'm thinking of three bookshelves... liquor behind cab #1... #2 is recessed, but #1 and #3 but set out. When #1 is released, it slides in front of #2 to rest next to #3... Wait. Maybe even easier is to have liquor behind #2 and have #2 slide *behind* #1 (or #3). More balanced and appealing to the eye too, probably.

Wedge is taking the words out of my brain.
You can buy a rail that will attach to the ceiling in which casters will go in the rail and you can hang just about anything from it. I've seen them in industrial applications or more heavy use / heavy duty applications.
The rest of it was just finished as you figured. Trimmed top and bottom, and whatever you wish behind. Door, booze, wifey, flat screen, etc.

Mancave TV show did a hidden entry/door episode. It was the entrance to the mancave. It was the bookshelf idea. I will go google it.

I didn't see anything on the opening system, it should be a fake book or NOTHING imo ! You can link this to the actual doorknob with a cord.

Actually I was thinking about the peg system that Wedge mentioned above. I was thinking along the lines of a place you stepped that caused the peg to retract from the door allowing it to be slid open.

No hidden door possible here
I need to go up 7 steps to get into the Great Room
I might go with a hidden shelving system to block the booze shelf
My son will get older...nice way to lock them down

If you build the bottom correctly, find some casters that are the perfect height, and the bottom will only be 1/8" or less off the ground and no one will no. Guide it with tracks on the top. Or even just hang it the perfect height so not to scrape the ground and still look like it is on the ground. If you have carpet, It would help hide the crack.
