I'm in the market for a Blue Ray player and surround sound system. Any recommendations?

If you're thinking of hitting a commercial setting, I'd suggest a smash and grab. Otherwise, residential is the way to go... You'd be surprised, but middle of the day is actually safer than late at night...

...

Wut?

Update: I ended up with Bose CineMate GS Series II and a Samsung Blue Ray (BD-C6500). The Bose is not really surround sound but more sound booster...it's great don't get me wrong. Very pricey but what the fuck.

What? I thought he wanted surround sound, not a sound booster... Plus, in case you didn't know, its kinda pricey.

According to the interwebs, Bose is overpriced crap. Bose is to audio equipment as McDonalds is to fine dining, or so they tell me.

I wouldn't say 'crap', but it's not nearly as high end as they market it to be.
It's decent mid grade big box store type stuff... *for the right consumer*.

I would buy polk or klipsh and save my monies for something else.

Sorry but Bose is niche market for people who don't know what they should really be listening to.

Their processors leave out a lot of the sound a normal system would play, so it sounds good to Joe Schmoe. That's why they can have those tiny mid range speakers and at first listen, they sound "great". Next time ask them, what about everything else I'm not hearing that I should be...

Google "bose crap"

BOSE Acoustimass - Better Profits Through Marketing

Why Bose Sucks (http://www.thetechlounge.com/news/10431/Why-Bose-Sucks/)

The following is a list of resources you should read before you let anyone you know buy a Bose system. You can get far better sound performance for a much lower price if you buy audiophile brands such as Usher, Epos, NHT, and even the more well-known B&W. Stereophile has a good list of audio component reviews for under $1000.

Smart Money Review:
We turn up the volume on the Bose Acoustimass 5 Series IIIsystem ($500), which includes two tiny speakers–just 6.2-inches high– and a subwoofer. Bose is the No. 1-selling speaker brand in the country, likely due to the company's hundred or so retail stores. But it's certainly not this audiophile's speaker of choice. "No, no!" Reed yells, not even a minute into "Rock Minuet," furiously waving his hands back and forth for us to stop. His complaint? The speakers deliver high- and low-end sound, but no middle. Plus, they display a "harsh high end," and although the subwoofer adds nice bass, "it makes the guitar sound thin."

A Bose spokesperson says that the speakers are balanced and designed to reproduce low and mid-to-high frequencies "according to the artist's original performance." But this artist, for one, disagrees. Still, we give the Bose another shot, this time playing hip-hop artist Mos Def, to test how the speakers handle heavy bass. "Oh no, oh no," Reed groans, sitting up to pet Lola, his Jack Russell terrier, who's curled up on a pillow next to him. "I'd pay money not to hear that." "Next," Reed demands.

Sorry, but the only thing Bose makes that are decent are the quiet headphones.

After years of having a Bose LS system I recently made the switch to a Yamaha RX, 5 satellite speakers, and a Klipsch 10" sub. I am no audiophile, but I could easily tell the difference in the sound quality after I got the new system hooked up. The Bose LS is now in the poker room (garage).

I dunno about you, but Wedge made my sarcasm sensor asplode.

Bose is ok if you live in a shoebox and can't spare the space. Otherwise it's not suitable for any other purpose. Do yourself a favour and return that shit.

There's one a few floors down from me, another the next building over, and a few more sprinkled across the campus.

The lines can be obscene. Not being a coffee drinker, I often wonder if the crack they sell is that good.

The hot chocolate is nice, though...
