Something like this?

Skil workbench (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010ODQ1U/ref=s9_ds_bw_ir03?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-5&pf_rd_r=06TQAB5ACXCNHQB5PT08&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1281718422&pf_rd_i=760330)

Being able to collapse it is key. Right now I'm working off of a sheet of mdf & 2 workforce sawhorses. Thinking of pulling the trigger on the black friday price of the miter saw Irish says is decent

Ryobi miter saw @ HD (http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053&productId=100634340)

Irish's review (http://perfectmancave.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11888&highlight=ryobi+miter)

I have a nice jigsaw, recip saw, & palm sander but no circular saw or router.

Never built one but I don't see anything there that someone with general handyman skills couldn't assemble from some scavenged parts and a little planning and patience.

Folding table legs would probably work fairly well for something like that and IIRC they carry them at Home Depot and Lowes both. Use a piece of scrap formica counter for the top maybe. I doubt you could make something for cheaper than that one but your resulting product would be exactly how you want it and probably last for a whole helluva lot longer.

Get creative in your search for parts and you could put together something pretty ingenious.
