TIP: You probably know that lit, tiered liquor shelves are very expensive. Currently, I am using 3 - 2"X4"s stacked behind 2 - 2"x4"s stacked behind 1 - 2"x4" for a shelving effect. This gives you a 4 layer shelving option (including counter surface) very inexpensively and you can make them as long as you want and they hold 750ml bottles perfectly. I am going to route out a channel down the middle of the 2x4s and counter sink some rope lighting (put on a dimmer of course), stain or paint, and voila! You can use any color rope lighting (I'd suggest white and let the bottle and liquor colors do the rest). Good Luck & Happy Holidays!

A friend of mine did something similar but he used frosted plastic panels as the base of the tiers, then just laid the rope lighting underneath and had a nice lighting piece to that doubled as liquor shelving.

In regards to wine racks, I recently added 2 6-bottle racks to my bar that were inexpensive ($20 each) and look pretty slick on my bar. Easy to mount with 2 screws. I'll take some pics and post when I get a chance.

This is exactly what I want to do, but probably only 2 tiers as below. Would like to have some illumination involved and enough room to hold about five 750ml bottles per shelf. Do you have any pictures you can share?
