Well, I strolled in there to check it out.
I didn't play, but I will be back to play!

Here were my first thoughts:
Close to the house, clean, well lit, decent looking people around the table.
Odd poker schedule though.
Wed: NL Hold'em 2/4 blinds ($100 buy in)
Fri: $3/6 Hold'em
Sat $2/4 Hold'em
Sun $1/2 Hold'em

They also have a NL Hold'em tourney on Sundays. $50 buy in with one add on after round 3.

They have 2 tables, a small grill in the back for sammiches, etc. a full bar and a very friendly staff. Phone (530) 676-4232

Anyone else who has been there / played there, I'd love to hear your reviews.

*EDIT*
They have changed thier game schedule and are now offering games on Thursday nights where they used to be closed and are also adding a 2/4 NL game on Saturday nights.
The complete game listings can be found on thier newly created website: http://www.blacksheepcasino.com

Love this place!
I went in there tonight with Packin'
He went on a rush from his initial buy in of $60 (I think) to cash out at $250 or so. I bought in for a rack and left after about a 3 hour session with 5 racks.

VERY juicy table tonight. Tons of great action and DOLT calling stations in every other seat around the table. Had one guy who claimed he was new to Hold'em by about 3 months or so betting into me with nothing while I have the nut full house. Another time I get into a hand with him, turn my straight, he calls my 20 bet, checks the river, I bet 60, calls me and turns over two pair. This is the same guy that can't control his hands or face when he makes his hand. Read 'em like a friggin kindergarden skool book.

James got into a few good tangles as well with some folks that paid nicely.

Is it just me or does our group seem like a bunch of professionals compared to all these people you play with in these cardrooms. What the hell are these people doing?

01-13-2005, 09:52 AM
I almost talked myself into going over there last night cause I knew you were going to be there. But after dropping a rack at DJ's yesterday after work, I decided not to. I'll get over there at some point since it's only 15 minutes away. It's good to see that you boys representing BYOC went in and broke their cherry for the rest of us.

By the way Quads I added the Blacksheep Inn to the Casino list for so you and Packen can apply your stats.

Yeah, i'm beginning to fall in love with this place. Totally juicy NL action.
I took a few pots against the same guy Quads did.
One went like this:
1/2 blinds. 3 callers. I've got about $130 for a stack. I bump it to $5 in the BB with AQ o/s. Three of us stay in for the flop. Flop comes KTJ, giving me the nut straight. Mr. "i just starting playing this month" bets $20 into me. I call. Last guy calls. Turn brings another K. Newbie then bets $40. I ponder what to do, and then raise all in for about $85. Last guy folds, Newbie calls with just a 9. All he had was a gutshot draw!! (needed a Q) Are you kidding me? He was totally drawing dead the whole time.
Newbie says he'll "definately be back next week." Well then so will I my friend......SO WILL I!

On as side note, I really like the chips this place uses. (That's because they're the same manufacturer as my own :)

Nice, very nice. I think I'm going to have to join you next week. What time does the NL game start 6:30?

I'm not a pro, but when you got Mr. I just started playing poker calls you all the way down to the river, in NO LIMIT for christ sake with bottom two pair, it's free monay!

There are a few other guys who play solid cards, but you can spot them in about 8.5696 nanoseconds.

After reading the posts is this a no-limit game you are in? I thought it was limit. If no-limit, is it also a $200 max bet?

Quads

It is NO LIMIT, NO MAX BET.
They are not in Sac County, so they can run a true No Limit Game.

Man it sucks this place is like 45 minutes away from me. Minimum buy-in for the game?

Ace-in-Space
01-13-2005, 03:28 PM
Forget the minimum--what is the maximum buy in for the game?

Also, could you provide a phone number to the place?

Furthermore, are the blinds for NL always $1/2?

Moreover, what is the rake?

Lastly, when are the NL games held?

I will try to make it there one of these days.

My bad, I should have said, all of Ace's questions were answered up top.

Regarding what time, they start playing: Around 6 to 6:30PM / or later, as people roll in to fill a table. Most nights they say they have the game going by 6:30.

What is the "drop" they refer to on the chart of poker games listed on the Web site?

Quads

drop=rake

Like Quads said, Drop = Rake = Collection. It just means how much the casino take out of the pot every hand. Sometimes the casino charges each player time (say $5 per every half hour) instead of taking money out of every pot.

Collection in California tends to fixed on the per hand basis (e.g., $3 every hand), although some casinos may have a "no flop, no drop" policy. Other the other hand, collection in Nevada tends to be varied on the per hand. For example $10-$20 Limit HE might rake $1 when the pot goes to $20, another dollar at $40, and so on with a max of $4 per pot.

Which is how the BS does it. They take a dollar out of each round of betting after the flop comes out.

Well i doubt my experience is a normal one for black sheep but i had a really bad one. I decide to check them out today, not to many places do a 2/4 structure so i thought i would give it a go. The website says they start at 1 so i show up around 1245 and the card room is locked up with just the bar open. The bartender tells me at around 1 people start showing up so i wait and i wait and i wait and around 215 a 5 person game finally gets going. The game gets up to 7 people by 245 or so and im just hovering up and down from being even. Well two guys were winning and everyone else was losing and then at around 330 the 2 big chips decide to leave and the small chips join in and me and one other guy who works there are the only ones left. The dealer says this sometimes happens and more people should show up and the game will start again, so i wait till around 5 and no one shows up and i finally leave. So i got to play for an hour and a half and wait for around 3 hours or so. I came up about 20 bucks but i would much rather lose 50 and play for 6 hours. I'm sure this might have been a fluke but i doubt i will be going their again. It was a 30 minute drive for me and i need to know i'm going to play for at least 6 hours before i make that trip again.

It was nice to get back to the Blacksheep. I've been busy and under the weather.
I got there at around 7:15 and there was already a full table with Packen and Blackwidow waiting for an open seat. There were a couple others as well. I sat with them awhile and Packen and I even played some darts to pass the time.

Another table was finally opened up. I got beat up for awhile for about $60. Nothing major just slowly eating my stack. I eventually moved over to the full table and things started to change for me.

I got back what I lost and then some. Quads, Blackwidow and I tangled on a hand that had a pot somewhere in the realm of $350.

Flop came out Ah9s7d Rainbow. I've got Ac9c top 2 pair, Quads has AdJd and Blackwidow has Tx8x. Blackwidow checks to me, player x checks, I check and Quads bets 20. Blackwidow calls, player x calls, I raise to 60. Quads smiles and asks if I have a good hand and I say no. He goes all in for another 100. Blackwidow ponders awhile and pushes the rest of her stack in around 40 I believe. Player x folds. I call which puts me all in for another 100.

We show and I see I am in the lead with top 2 pair. Blackwidows open ended straight draw with 2 cards left gave me a little worry.

Turn brings a 5s which ends Quads' flush draw. River brings Ah which boats me just for the hell of it and I drag the monster pot. Another exciting hand that had a good result for me. Quads left after that and then Blackwidow made quite the comback from there.

Also, when I came over from the small table I guess I just missed Quads taking Packen to the felt with "quad aces". Maybe one of them can fill us in on that hand.

Plus, it was finally nice to put some faces to some handles. Partykid and Gordo was there and I believe they did very well. I know the party kid cashed out somewhere near $200.

Sounds like BYOCers all beating each other up with a rake. Did you drag any huge pots off the other half of the table?

It was really nice finally getting to meet some more byocers. This was actually my first time playing N/L at a casino and to be honest ive never played N/L with stakes of more then a $25 buy in. I enjoyed the experience very much and will probably make black sheep my new wendsday night game.

As for your question kahuna i think the byocers took advantage of "the other half" I could be wrong but except for that huge hand with quads and pimp, i didnt see to many big run ins on each other but i could be wrong. It was to bad seeing quads go out like that. This was my first time playing with him and i didnt like seeing him leave under thos cirscumstances.

One hand i wanted to write about was a hand where i got dealt pocket kings. I raised the pot to $10 and the only caller i got was a guy who i had been waiting for the oppurtunity to run into all night. He had A3 os which makes me chuckle thinking he called $10 with in the first place. The flop came out KJ3 giving me a set and his 3's pair up. I check he checks. Turn comes out a J giving me a boat. I check he bets $5, i pull a little acting bit and kind of sigh shrug my shoulder and say "one time" and call. The river comes out a 3. Talk about a dream river card for me because now i know he has some sort of piece of this flop. I put him on J's giving him a smaller boat then mine so i bet $10. He kind of gets excited and raises it to $20, This is where i make my only mistake and i say "make it 50" instead of raise it 50 and the dealer has to give back some of my bet which kind of gave away my strength when i tried to argue my bet(at least i learned a lesson) but i didnt realize the guy had only about 30 more so my raise put him all in anyways. The guy doesnt want to call and he starts announcing that he knows i have a jack but he is gonna pay me off anyways which he did and i got a nice little reaction from the table when i flipped over my kings.

Well i had a very good time that night and i was glad to see pimp walk out with a nice lil chunk of change. I hope to see more byocers there this wendsday

Got over to TBS at 6:15 and the game was already full with Packen and I believe the kid. Got a seat around 7p or so and played til 2a. There was a second table going a couple of times through the night. I bought in for $100 and had two add ons of $50 before 10p.

I ended up cashing out 3 1/2+ racks to clear $150+. It was one of those nights of cards where you were thankful it wasn't a BYOC night or I would of been spent. I had to play some poker to get ahead.

I had trips on the kid once and would of checked him to the river just to take the pot we already built but he shoved so I had to call. The board was not pretty but I could not lay down at that point. I truly was trying to stay out of his way and let him work.

I'm not sure how everyone ended up but it was a long 7 hours of poker to end up averaging around $21 per hour.

I played from about 6pm to 10pm. Cards started off cold, but it picked up towards the end. Bought it for $140 and cashed for $190. Glad to see PIMP and THE FRIENDLY GHOST make it out.
I saw the ghost call Larry's all in and hit a 5-outer on the river to make his straight and take down a $200+ pot. Way to go Kasper.

Is there anyone n this place that's not in our games?

Seems like you guys are just giving away rake.....

I go cause it's close to home. If the drive was much longer I wouldn't go. Not because of the rake but because of the competition. You guys scare me with your all ins.

There have been several nights where 5 or 6 out of 9 or 10 on the table are the same people from my home game the week before.

Great recruiting ground.

IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT!

They had two tables going in a very short period of time. QUADS, Packen and I were at the same table. Packen was tearing the table a new one until the time he left. I believe he cashed out 300+. QUADS and I were doing everything we could to make our JT off A4 suited cards work.

I blew through the first rack and hovered with the second up til around 11p. Then it happend. There was a very aggressive loud player pushing everyone around after the two tables made one and he was doing very well. I believe his name was Dominick or something like that, good player.

I'm in BB, player to my left calls the $5 bring in. Dom raises to $18 with 3 callers and he is still chattering. I've got AK off and slam down a nice smooth stack of $5 chips and say "make it $100". Silence from DOM for a second. Then he says "He has some balls I'll give em that". Then he calls, fold, fold, player to my right is thinking...thinking...thinking...he folds pocket kings!

DOM for some reason flips over his cards, QJ off and says "let me see what do you got?", the dealer informs him that I still have chips. DOM looking dumbfounded and searching for words and trying his best to still look in control. Says "That's ok". The flop comes out A7J. I look at DOM with a smile and say "I'm all in" for another $57. He calls, I flip over big slick and needless to say I drag all those beautiful chips home. A couple rotations and I'm on my way. I tip the dealers and leave. I averaged about $30 an hour.

I'm thinking that its probably not a very good strategy to show another player your cards while you both still have chips. It sorta gives away your hand, don't you think??!!!!!!!!!
I guess my other question is: What would compel a player to call a $100 reraise with QJ offsuit? I guess maybe that guy should have looked over his shoulder at the "Hand Win Percentage Poster" that the Black Sheep has on the way. Could he have really thought he had the best hand?

04-14-2005, 12:26 PM
Right after the hand of mine he called, I think he went on tilt. He raised the next hand for $20 his buddy on the end went all in and DOM called with 95 off????????????? huh??????????needless to say he missed. His buddies AQ good.

He worked hard for those chips and gave them away in two hands...REBUY.

05-05-2005, 01:29 PM
I had some decent cards last night and cashed out almost 4 racks in 4 hours for around $75/hour. The most exciting hand for me was when I came in with ATo calling a $10 open with 3 players.
The flop came AAT and I just about shit my pants.
I'm first to go...CHECK...CHECK...CHECK.
The turn brings a blank...CHECK...$20...CALL...CALL.
The river brings a blank...pause........I'M ALL IN...pause.......FOLD......pause....."Are you slow playing an Ace" he asks.... "I CALL" he says and slams down an Ace for trips...I punish him by showing my Ace Ten boat.

I have to say he took it well as he counted out another $195 from his stack of about $400.

I also had A's twice that held for some decent pots.

I think the game broke up after I left but Packen can replay if it didn't. Alot of early action last night that kept coming.

06-23-2005, 10:23 AM
Wow, what a different night compared to the beating I took last Monday at Packens.

I was getting some cards, a little love from the board and a pinch of luck here and there to cash out almost 6 racks in about 3 hours. It was amazing how often I would come in with a raise of $15 or more and get 4 or more callers...I'm like what do these players have to make that call??? Anyhow, most of their gambles just didn't payoff and that was good for me. Some of these calls seem to be a little out of character for the players I was up against. Maybe there was a special on TV the night before or something on how to bust up a tight aggressive semi loose calling station rock mouse pimp...:) or maybe they heard the news about last Monday and felt bad for me...

Anyhow, I just had to share.
