Does anyone have one of these? And does it sound as good (old time amp sound) as my brother is telling me?

Peterod has 17 of them. One for each room in his house.

Sounds like a cool idea, but the sound quality in a lot of music that has been converted to MP3 has been degraded so badly, I think you're spending a lot of money on diminished goods.

Looks like there are some DIY tube amp projects out there, which might be kind of cool from a complete geek perspective.

Here's the DIY project that was on that list - its in Mono. I wonder how hard it would be to modify to stereo?

Agree with Dick Brain and CRAW, if they ripped in lossless, you have a chance at good audio quality, but if they are in a lossy format, no tube amp can save them. It will however eat a hole in your bank account. Tube Amps are expensive shit.
