How many people in the BYOC Clan are interested in playing Omaha? I know this was tried once before which was an interesting test, on an absolutely jam packed table, et.c etc.

I personally love the game and would like to incorporate it into my home game, either as a Omaha only game, Omaha / Hold'em or something along the happy medium of a mixture.

Would you play Omaha at the same stakes in which you currently play Hold'em?

No, the night at T's place. We tried Hold'em and Hi/Lo split.

Would love to play Omaha High at maybe a $40 or $50 buy-in until I can get the nuances of the game down. The test version we had was completely different.

I don't like the mixture of the 2 games at the table as I have tried it and the startegy and betting is very different so I would rather do a 2 hour Omaha and 2 hour Hold'em in the same night.

I tried Omaha Hi/Lo at the Bellagio once. I got confused and threw away quads on the flop.

I don't mind trying Omaha either Hi/Lo or High Only. However, Hi/Lo is almost always played with Limit and High Only is almost always played with Pot Limit.

Being that I'm a fan of a) Omaha, 2) Hold'em and iii) Pot limit, I see a game in my future!

I'd be interested in playing some Omaha, but I'd prefer to play it (High or Hi/Lo) for limit stakes, preferably very low stakes. I'd like to get competent at another game so I could take an Omaha seat in a cardroom if I wanted to someday.

Some of the local places spread it and it's always limit. Most of us are learning the game and there's really only way to learn and that's to play. I prefer to not pay full price for my lessons if at all possible....

I too would be interested in one or two initial "training stakes" games of $25. Im sure with all the newbies there will be several toasters handed out.

Question though, when playing Hi/Lo, do cards speak for both pots or do you declare?

Card speaks (although you could use different 2-card combinations out of the four for high and low).

Example if you have AAJ2 and the board is AK347 (assuming no 3 flush or more on the board) your would use AA from our hand for AAAK7 as the high hand and A2 from your hand for A2347 for low) Straights and flushes
don't hurt you on the low (the lowest hand is A2345), but there is an 8 qualifier for low (in order for a low to exist the board must have at least 3 no paired cards equal or below an 8).

Again, I have not seen a Pot Limit Omaha when it is played High Low (it is played with limit) and I have seen Omaha played with Pot Limit when it is High only.

Cards always speak in poker unless you are playing some deranged "declare" game such as a versionn of Chicago, 727, Anaconda, etc. with someone’s wild house rules, suicide jacks and red hearts are wild (on Tuesdays) when there is a Queen on the board and you bluffed the low spade in your hand.

There are many versions of Hi/Lo that require declaration. These are usually home game poker "versions" though. Sometimes you can win a pot by just guessing the right way to declare. Sometimes you lose a pot by picking the wrong direction.

Omaha (and other "widow" versions of poker) Hi/Lo are always played as a cards speak though as far as I know.

Casinos use card speaks on Hi Lo games to prevent possibility of collusions between players (it is probably not to hard for partners to signal each other on whether they are prepared to declare high or low), reduce arguments and confusions, speed up the game, etc. It is cut and dry when you look at the cards and determine the winners.

i love me some omaha hi/low and would love to be involved in a game like that. Omaha is alright but i'd rather play hold em if your not gonna thow in the high low
