Long time lurker about to get going on his cave and I'm wondering if anyone has had experience painting a suspended ceiling black? I currently have a suspended ceiling in my basement and I want to darken it up in preparation for a projector.
Any suggestions on paint, techniques or otherwise would be greatly appreciated.

Airless spray gun would be my only suggestion. I wouldn't try to roll it for the issue of the tiles moving around when you're trying to roll it.
Rent one from a rental yard or HD if you don't have the need to buy one. A decent one will run you 400 or so buck once you're all said and done. Rental should be 50 or 60 buck a day.
Remove tiles from the ceiling.
Roll with very thick nap roller. Or preferable spray if you have the means. It's more difficult to roll. People will often thin the paint a little bit so it works into the holes in the ceiling tile better.
Track painted in place with brush or small roller.

Be sure and use a really good primer. I did it once, painting the tiles a really dark blue for a theatre room, and it took a ridiculous amount of paint, i did not prime them.

Flat black works the best. I have painted many in my day. The stores I run have flat black tiles and if one gets wet, damaged etc we have to get a can of flat black spray paint and viola. Works well.

If you spray them in place best bet is to raise them up just a little from the frame
That way they are not stuck to the frame
Taking them out/down can be a Royal PIA depending upon the installation
Some people install them so tight you will end up breaking them taking them down
