So we're getting a PS3 in the next month, so I'm checking out pricing and such. We'll be using it primarily as a blu-ray player and streaming netflix movies. I'll have a few games but not much, though my kids enjoy playing console games.
So what's the better buy, a 320GB PS3 with 1 controller for $350-ish or a 160GB PS3 with 2 wireless controllers for $350? I can definitely envision the need for 2 controllers, but I don't see the immediate advantage for the 360GB PS3. When we watch movies, we'll delete them pretty much immediately after viewing. I hadn't planned on using the PS3 as a media hub, but I suppose I could copy dvd's onto the hard drive? Can you do that? How much space does each movie without the special features use?
In short, what's the advantage to the larger hard drive?

More storage...of video, music, game saves, avatars, back grounds, dl-able games, and on-and-on. You always think you have enough storage at first, but typically run out faster than ever imagined.
With that said, I think a second controller would be a good investment, so if that model sounds like a better deal to YOU, go for it!

Look at it like this 140GB or a controller... Thats really the only difference. The controller is $50ish depending on sales and such. If you have to upgrade your HD you are looking at well more than that. Also if you are going to use this for BD & Netflix you will want to pick up this...

Well worth the $20 and not trying to control via the hand-held game control.

agreed. I stream everything to my PS3 from my computer. There isn't much on my PS3 hard drive.

The PS3 just uses any old standard 2.5 inch SATA drive. It is SUPER EASY to replace it at any time with your own drive. I would pass on the extra space and upgrade later if you find you are running outta space.
With thumb drives and such, you can easily just use those to add movies now and then.

x2, for your needs it doesn't sound like the extra HD space would be necessary.

Oh yeah, don't put your credit card info on the PS3 network either. ;)

So I picked up the PS3 over the weekend. Got it for $299 bundled with Tiger Woods PGA 2012, one controller. But I thought that was a pretty good price. Makes the PS3 closer to $250, perhaps less.
Found this bundle in one of Lubbock's Wal-marts, was there for the weekend visiting my brother and his family. My wifey went to a wedding outside of town, so she was gone most of the night. This is a reward for the kids' good grades throughout the whole year (actually for earning 100 AR points but I won't go into the nuiances of that, good grades will suffice). Bought it a bit early, but like I said, the bundle was a great value and I hadn't seen it anywhere else bundled like this.
Immediate impressions: very easy to hook up to lcd hd tv. Blows the wii and PS2 away. Bought Way of the Gun on blu-ray for $6, just so I would have a blu-ray disc. Great picture, love it. Can't way to move and get hi-speed internet and re-up the netflix account and stream a shit load of movies.
Also bought COD: World at War for $20. Have COD: Black Ops for wii, but will prolly pick up COD: Modern Warfare from amazon for $20 rather than replacing COD: BO for PS3. Excited to get online gaming as well, in a couple weeks after the move.
Finally, will be getting a 55" lcd hdtv in the near future, to upgrade from the 32" which will go into my bedroom. Can't wait.
PS2 will be hitting the trading post after I get some pics.
Thanks for all the helps.
