The TV on the main floor is about to shit the bed. My plan has been that when this TV goes, I move the 50" plasma from the mancave to the main floor, then put a bigger TV in the mancave. The only thing I know about TV is how to hook it up and watch it. For the $$$ what is the better choice...65" plasma or projector? If projector...what components are needed besides the actual projector?

I painted the screen for my projector directly on the wall and slapped door casing around it. Most projectors don't have any speakers, so you'll need a receiver, speakers (I just have a POS Bose 321) and an hdmi. If you have the space, and the room is light controlled, I don't see why anyone would not go with a pj.

I currently have in-wall, in-ceiling, and center channel surround with a great receiver. I currently have all devices (blueray, directv) connected to received (via HDMI) and one HDMI going out to TV. I assume it would be a simple HDMI from receiver to projector.

I will have to go with a drop-down screen (I think) because I used a textured paint on the walls, and DO NOT want to change the walls at this point.

How is the picture quality in comparison with Plasma? Do you have to have all the lights off to watch TV? Below is a pic of my space:

I typically leave the lights off that are above the TV area (tv side of large column), but leave the lights on that are on the poker/play area side (opposite side of large column).

Search Epson 8350 and you can see some pics. My camera sucks, so my pics aren't so great, but I rarely watch with the lights off. Josh had some great shots that showed with lights on.

I think I will definitely go the projector route. For $1500 I can get a 100" (approx) screen as opposed to $3500 for a good 65" plasma...no brainer there. Bonus is I will not have to buy another wall-mount for upstairs...just re-use the one I have and the new projector screen will cover up mount holes in basement.

I just wanted to make sure that the quality was comparable. I will also have to re-mount the in-wall speakers a bit wider to accomodate the wider screen (good thing I saved the hole-cutouts from original speaker installation, will make patching so much easier).

Thanks for the info fellas. I'll post pics once complete...now I have to start horse-trading with the wife in order to purchase (don't hold your breath)

Slev,

Come on over to my house. I'll show you what 113" inches of glory looks like. Then I'll show you my projector too!

I can also show you how I made my screen. You may not need to move your speakers if you use an acoustically transparent material for your screen.

I will definitely take you up on the offer...just don't know when, given my current playset project.

Thanks

I would love to help you with that, but I don't want to.
