So I'm thinking about building a 500 chip set. I'm stil deciding on who's chips I'll go with. I have it narrowed down to Mardis Gras

or Pauslon if I can find them at a reasonable price.

So here's where I'm having trouble. What denominations should I get. I like to play both tourneys and cash games and I'd like to be able to have enough chips for a 10 player game.

Ideas, suggestions greatly appreciated.

what kind of stakes are the cash games going to be for?
And if you are interested, I know where there is a group buy of paulsons right now, $0.87/chip. If you want I'll give you the link.

Oh what the hell, here (http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/portal.php) is where the group buy is.

You are in luck. I am the self proclaimed Guru of chips. I was thinking of the same question a year ago when I was in the delivery room with my wife when she was giving birth (well, I had to think of something to occupy my mind given how nervous I was).

Big Kahuna bought some Mardi Gras chips and ended up selling them because they were too slick and hard to stack.

You can't go wrong with Paulson but it may be hard to find a matching 500 chip set in the exact denomination you want, even on ebay (although they have a "new" Paulson design for sale on ebay which you could pick your denomination that says Paulson Chips on them instead of the traditional Hat and Cane).

Chipco are also good if you like more plasticky and less clay-ey feel.

With Paulson and Chipco are top of the line and you are looking at at least $1 per chip. The next level down would be Nevada Jacks and Blue Chip (about 80 cents or so per chip). Then going down the list there are chips the go for about 50 cents per. After that then you will have the ones they sell at Costco (heavy metal insert plastic).

For the make up of the set (for both cash and tourney) I would go with this (BTW, 500 chips are plenty for a 10-player game):

150 $1 chips
150 $5
100 $25
80 $100
20 $500

For the cash game you would use the $1, $5, and $25 chips. For our usual $50 buy in game with 50 cents/$1 blind I suggest you could use chips at half value (with makes $1 chip worth 50 cents, so the blinds will be 1 chip, 2 chips). Give each player 10 $1's, 8 $5's, and 2 $25's. There should be plenty of ammo for rebuys where you would not have to reach for the $100 chips.

For the normal 1 table Sit and Go tourney with no rebuys you would use $25, $100 and $500 chips. Start the blinds at $25/$25, then $25/$50, $50/$100, etc. and give everyone $1000 in chips (8 $25's, 3 $100's, and 1 $500). After the blinds reach $100/$200 you take out the $25's and exchange for $100's.

Let me know if this helps.

I have 2000 Mardi Gras chips, and have no problem stacking them. The tallest 'single" stack so far has been over 80 chips. Slick? Naw, don't think so.

I did not buy Mardi Gras. They were Jackpot Casino chips that were hard to stack. Chips I have now are Desert Sands which are made by Nevada Jacks who also make the Mardi Gras. Mine and the Mardi Gras are sweet chips and a great alternative to the Paulsons since you can pay half as much. I think they still have the deal going at nevadakacks.net

Other than that, I would concur to go with the Paulson group buy on chiptalk.net

Best Paulson deal going right now.

Mea Culpa. I got mixed up with the chips BK had. Listen to BK and MF on what they have to say. Nevada Jack's website is nevadajacks.net. I believe they have a few different qualities of chips available.

It sounds like the Pharoah chips will not be available until August.

I played at Moddy's and his Mardis Gras chips are really nice. Can't wait for another game (tourney, or cash game) at Moddy's.

To everyone else.. thanks for the replies and ideas.
