Tipping when you win the derby tourney?

For those of you who have placed in the top 3 at the Derby Tuesday or Sat tourney....what is the normal tip you leave? I have heard everything from 3% up to 30%. Seeing as though they do not take a standard 3% out in lieu of tips, I was thinking a flat 10% would be a good amount.

What is standard for small tourneys vs. larger ones?

Interesting topic that always come to my mind when I'm fortunate enough to place in a tourney.

IMHO, 10% is generous when you place high in a tourney (1st-3rd)... usually I don't tip quite that much whenI finish in the top 3. 2 weeks ago when I finished 2nd, the prize money was $1040... I tipped $60 which is about 6% but still seemed pretty fair to me... I figure the dealers probably aren't making quite as much dealing a tourney as they would be dealing a cash game, so I try to not stiff them too much.

When I finish lower down the rung (5th or below), the tip proportion usually becomes higher ($20 or $30 when I win $200 or so).

As a personal rule of thumb, I typically tip a flat 10% when placing in the top 10 at the Derby Tourney; however, my rule might fluctuate based on how good the dealing was throughout the night. If multiple dealers were consistently making mistakes, rushing my play, etc... then I would take that into consideration when tipping at the end of the night.

The dealers at the Derby are typically decent so I rarely fluctuate from the flat 10% tip. When I took 4th place at last Tuesday's tourney, I won about $450 and tipped $40.

I like the 10% rule up to a certain amount which can be effected by the final table dealer.

I might be tight, but both tournies I won I tipped $50. One was a $690 win and one was $890. I felt that was a fair amount. In the non wins I think I have tipped around $20 regardless of where I finished in the money.

10% is the starting point for me as well and if the dealers went unnoticed then that's where it stays. Also, in cash games for dealers I know at small casino's, blacksheep, juans, etc..., I also use the 10% mark cause I tip when I leave and not during play.

If it is a place with multiple dealers moving around I do the standard toss a chip or 2 when I rake a pot.

I tried to tip a blackjack dealer $10 a few weeks back in a casino here, and they looked at me weird and asked what that was for.
I had won around $400 and the dealer was a nice bloke so I threw 2 $5 chips his way and said thanks, but I was told by the pit boss, dealers can't accept tips.
Oh well, I'm not worried, 2 more drinks for me!
But getting used to tipping for pretty much everything over in the US, was bizarre.
I don't mind tipping, but wasn't sure how much was good and how much was insulting.
Got the hang of ot now though.
