View Full Version : Alternatives to Evite??

Since they've changed their platform to what I guess is a flash based interface, Evite sucks balls. Very unreliable service - the site experiences frequent errors, and I've had people not get invitations. I've dealt with it a for a few months thinking they'd work on the bugs, but I'm fed up as it doesn't appear to be getting any better. Anyone have any good alternatives for organizing/keeping track of a guest list online for a poker tourney? CNET recommended Pingg and Crusher, they both seem to have pretty good interfaces.

I've been getting more and more poker invites through anyvite. It seems to work better for the invitee, I can't say for the inviter since I haven't done that part yet.

Thanks guys. Took a look at it and it looks very similar to evite used to be, which is good. The only thing I didn't like is that you can't leave text directly when you RSVP. We use tourney director and when someone brings a guest they usually leave their name so I can have them entered into the computer before the game, makes for a quicker start time. I see you can leave comments, so there's a media there to leave the info but it's an extra step, it may be confusing for a few of the non-computer-savy gents. Definitely will consider using it because it looks real familiar to what we're using now. Thanks for the recommendation!
Started playing with Pingg a little, works good but it has this free/pay split that's kind of annoying. 90% of their templates were for a "plus" account.

google calendar??
That would work for me, but not everyone who plays has a google account. Same thing with facebook, I think there's a tool I could use there but not everyone is on there (including me ). I'd prefer something that folks don't have to sign up for.

How about Google+? Couldn't you just add all the people on your list to a circle and then send invites out to just that circle?

I'd prefer something that folks don't have to sign up for. You don't need a google account to get invited to an Event via google calendar. It's handled through regular e-mail just like EVITE and they can access the event details online. It's basically just like evite just without all the fancy graphics. And like Trann said, you can add non-Google+ members to your circle so that they get e-mailed any messages sent to the circle. So you could do it that way too.

I wanted to post a quick update to this. I've switched over to Anyvite for tourney notifications and have been using that successfully for the last few months. The email notifications got stuck in a few spam filters at first, but we seem to have that worked out now. Not quite as many options as evite, but it's very stable and reliable which is what I was really looking for. The guys who have iPhones and such also prefer Anyvite, they say it's easier to see/respond on mobile devices than with evite.

This is all I use anymore and everybody seems to like it better than Evite.
