I don't know a lot about them myself, I've read a fair bit at avsforums and some in store watching, tinkering, etc. I do know this, for 2 dimes, you can get a pretty decent projector. I also know that people rave and love the Epson's.

I've had the Epson 8350 for about 3 months now and if I could fuck it I would!

Epson 8350 was $1,150. I built my own screen frame out of poplar and wrapped it with black velvet...screen material is Audio Transparent (from SeymourAV), size 115". Screen material and frame supplies cost me just under $300. I have my center and front L & R speakers in the wall behind the screen and the sound is excellent.

I will never be without a projector again. The Epson is great in pretty much all lighting conditions. I know some people have had issues with the 8350 but Epson customer service is excellent. Take a few min...hours and read through the projector threads on AVSforum.

Good luck

I bought an NEC 240k (I think that's the model, anyway) over 4 years ago and it has been rock solid. It doesn't have HDMI inputs and I'm sure technology has come a long way since I bought mine but I couldn't be happier. I'll never be without a projector.

I did my research at projectercentral dot com. I have no affiliation with the site and I haven't been back since I bought my projector so I'm not even sure if the site exists or is still relevant. Just wanted to throw it out there as a resource.

SEARCH projector on here. Then stop by one weekend and see my setup. I'm like 15 mins from you. Richard Cranium drives from MD to play at my place.
EPSON 8350 ftmfw. Football looks incredible.

i'm prob gonna take you up on your offer, moving this weekend and that's why i want to see projectors. i've got a place in my house that has a nice space for a projector and i'm thinking instead of a 50" i'd rather get a projector for HD content, mostly sports and my streaming server i'll setup.

thx

Pop over Saturday or Sunday. Day or night. We happen to be having a tourney on Saturday

I'm starting to scope out a good projector too, since the house is coming along nicely. I do want one that is capable of showing some 3D content as well. As has been mentioned, Epson has a really good name. They also just came out with a few new projectors, and their 2nd from the top Pro Cinema 5010 , msrp 3g's, looks to be a kick ass unit. They'll be at the top of my list when i get ready to pull out the cheque book.

Here you go fella, go Epson 8350 and here's a good bundle if you want to get on with it for $1600 total:

Or if you want to DIY the screen, check out the AVSforum.

I've been very happy with my LG CF181D. There is a side by side comparison video you can see at projectorpeople.com that sold me over the Epson & Panny. It's a tad more expensive at $2K but if you watch you can get a free replacement lamp, etc to off set the extra cost.

I highly suggest going the DIY route for your screen. I got some projector screen material seconds off of ebay for $25 and made my own frame. Took me about 4 hours of work to make the frame, stretch the material and then make the borders the same way with black material, but I saved at least $500 over buying a commercial screen.

I have some pictures on my Philly Man Cave thread if you want to see the picture/screen in action.
