I'm looking at buying a splitter to send the cable signal to 2 different TV's
Monoprice has a simple splitter that would seem to work
Distance to the 2nd TV would be less then 12'
Once the bar is setup I want a TV behind the bar then another one that people further away can watch, both connected to the same cable box

Some reviews seem to indicate a cable like thsi will not work to send the same signal to 2 different monitors ?

Monoprice seems to state it will work as I want to use it
Or do I need a powered splitter like they recommend #4921 ?

NOTE: It is STRONGLY recommended NOT to use this passive splitter with longer lengths of HDMI cables. Also, since passive splitters do not negotiate individual handshakes between connected devices and do not pass HDCP information back to the source device, passive splitters are not recommended for most home theater applications. For home theater applications, using an active or powered splitter is highly recommended. If you're looking for a 1x2 HDMI splitter for a home theater application, we recommend using product ID 4921.
(*) This is a splitter cable. You can only connect one source device (i.e. DVD player, cable box or satellite receiver) to two output devices (i.e. TV or projector). You can't connect two source devices (i.e. DVD player, cable box or satellite receiver) to one output device (i.e. TV or projector).

Appears it only works when you are using one output device at a time
So won't work for what I want to do

I have a similar cable like the first one Dave. It only works by sensing one source at a time and feeding that signal. both outlets do not work at the same time. You'll want a power splitter for that.

For me it's powered all the way. I have the non-power one you linked to in a junk drawer somewhere. Never worked properly, always had handshake issues. Once I went to powered splitters have never had a problem.

Yeah, when I'm ready I'll buy a powered splitter
I'm not sure if I will be powering 2 ore 3 TV's...so will wait until bar is built & decide on TV's

I have the powered splitter from Monoprice with a 40' HDMI cable, and a 10' on it and it works fantastic.

Very happy with it.

Good to know, I was wondering how they held up on distance
Are you using a standard 28 gauge HDMI cable ?

Can't speak for the splitters or switches, but I have a 100 foot cable from monoprice, and there is a slight lag between the audio and video.

100ft... that's pretty far. guess your just using it for video and not audio? IF your using it for both, they should/would go at the same speed.

Actually, now that I think about it I was only using it for video. When I have my poker tourneys, I would use the tv downstairs for some sporting event (with the source being 100feet away on my (at the time, only satellite receiver). The audio would be fed from the yamaha receiver upstairs to the speakers wired in downstairs as the sound was better than the tinny crap you get outta a flat panel.

Can't say that I ever just ran any audio outta the tv, but it would make sense that it should be the same speed.

I have that powered splitter from monoprice and it works ok.... not super. Every once in a while the televisions have trouble making the handshake with the satalite box and I have to go unplug everything and plug them back in (in a certain order). Kind of finicky... and normally wouldn't care all that much, but I have the box hidden in the furnace room behind the workout room. Kind of a PIA to run back and forth between the rooms.
