I'm attempting to build a psuedo cabinet for my mame pc. Until now I never knew of the complexity of arcade stick controllers or how much they really were. Is there one you recommend buying or know of someone who might have one for sale?

Thanks
TJ

Have no idea where to buy. Haven't attempted a mame cab. yet. I know some others have so hopefully they'll chime in.

You're trying to build just a controller box right, to hook up to a PC running MAME? If I remember correctly from the other thread.

You have some choices in that case -

1) Buy something like an x-arcade or similar if there are others out there. Mass produced stuff. Might fit your needs, might not. Generally thought of to be of a lower quality. I don't know if that's true, or that's just the arcade geeks who think they can build better. I've never used one, so I'm not an expert on x-arcade.
Arcade Joysticks and Game Controllers (http://www.xgaming.com/store/category/arcade-joysticks-and-game-controllers/)

2) buy from one of the craftsman that build controllers to custom specs. Depending on who you pick to build it, it could be a work of art, or it could be ugly. Get what you pay for, etc. X-arcade will be an off the shelf, buy in the AM, ships by the afternoon type thing. Buy from a craftsman who builds to order, who knows how long it might take, but you're getting a one of a kind setup.

3) build it yourself. you'll get exactly what you want and the know how to fix it if it breaks. do some research to find the type of controls you want, type of buttons, stick, etc. the wiring may look complicated, but its actually pretty easy.

Cliff notes:
If you're looking for the easy way out, buy an x-arcade. If you want to get something exactly the way you want it, build it yourself or find a custom builder to do it for you.

Thanks Richard.
I've googled arcade sticks and found several choices. I was hoping to keep it under $50. Choices are slim. Saw the X-Arcade. Love it and it's on sale.
I'm going to have to pony up the cash and buy the x arcade.

For less than $50 it would be tough to find something. The parts to build your own quality setup for a single player would be over that.

Do not order from happ, directly. Big shipping issues.

I just got my x-arcade last week and so far it's worked great. Feels like its built well. I priced out doing it myself thru ultimarc.com (?) and x-arcade was much cheaper.
