General rules of thumb:

1.) I pay out three people for a full table and add another spot for each additional table (4 spots at a 2-table tournament, 5 spots at a three table tournament, etc.). Assuming tables of 9, you're looking at paying out 9-10 spots if all 60 people show up. That might be a bit generous, but I said its a general rule of thumb. I think casino tournaments typically only pay the top 10%-ish of the field. This formula will pay the top 15% (based on 60 players).

2.) I also pay out $X for first place, $X/2 for second place, $X/3 for third place, etc. You need to figure out how many places you are paying, but assuming 9 places and 60 people, your payouts would look like this:

60 players x $200 buyin = $12,000

First place (35.3486%) = $4,241.83
Second place (17.6743%) = $2120.92
Third place (11.7829%) = $1,413.94
Fourth place (8.8371%) = $1,060.45
Fifth place (7.0697%) = $848.37
Sixth place (5.8914%) = $706.98
Seventh place (5.0498%) = $605.98
Eighth place (4.4186%) = $530.23
Ninth place (3.9276%) = $471.31

Normally, I'd round to the nearest $5 (or nearest $20 with such a large buyin). I didn't check if there were rounding errors above.

I think you can download and use The Tournament Director for 30 days before you need to register it. http://www.thetournamentdirector.net/

A personal license is $40. A commercial license is $200 per year. With a tourney the size you're talking about, this is probably a good idea.

Another option is Dr. Neau's Tournament Manager. I used to really like this software, but he uses a subscription license model that doesn't work well for me since I only have 2-3 tourneys a year. drneau.com (http://www.drneau.com)

There may be other free timers out there, but I'm not familiar with them. Check out Home Poker Tourney - Poker Tournament Clocks, Poker Tournament Blinds Timers (http://www.homepokertourney.com/clocks.htm) for a pretty comprehensive list of poker timers. Some are free.

edit: oh! I forgot. The old version of The Tournament Director is free. I think the version is 1.34. You may still be able to find it online.

Dr. Neau is free for 2-tables. You have to pay for anything more than that.

The HPT link is a comprehensive list and a good place to start looking. I'm nearly certain that there are java-based websites that you can pull up and they act as a tourney timer.

Big fan of the tournament director software. Been using it for about four years, great software and even better support.

Yes, it's free for 2 tables, but I think it is limited to 12 players. :( Not really 2 tables...

if you need complete tournament management, i.e. table movement, rebuy tracking, etc then I'd say Tournament Director, been using it for years. If all you want is a timer, and you have a android based phone I'd say Ultimate Holdem Timer from the market. It works very well and is really easy to set up.
