I guess you go from one extreme to the next. Coming off my rush at the casino in Windsor, I figured I was good for a year end session.
Sat down tonight in my typical "mortgage payment" NL game and got my ass handed to me. A few orbits later, I got my ass handed to me again. Then I missed a draw or 7, and got my ass handed to me.
I woke up with a flopped set of 6's and got my ass handed to me.
4 or 5 hours later, I took down a pot in the BB with a 3 high flush. (4 spades on the board)
A few hands later, I got my ass handed to me. Then I went on tilt when a player called my $150 preflop raise with J/4o. He of course handed my ass to me.
I'm giving up poker for the rest of the year.

...when a player called my $150 preflop raise with J/4o
This is exactly the kind of shit that will happenin that place. LIke I've said before, you really gotta catch cards in that place or else you'll....get your ass handed to you.
Good luck on this oath to "give up poker" for the rest oif the year. I think you just might make this one.

But I'd sooner play that game than JR.

Why is that, Quads? Is it because of the action?
I have played both places and seem to think DW gets a little too wild. The players seem to be just as bad at both places, but in my experience, it doesn't cost you $300 when one of the four retards draws out on you at Jackson.
p.s. Welcome to the New Year, go play some cards.

For me it was just a bad night of cards.
I know the game there is wild, yes, it's an action game, but I'd honestly take that game over Jackson, any day. The skill level at DW is much higher than at JR. (to me) JR is like a home game with a bunch of 18 y/o's drivel wearing sun glasses fighting over a $12 pot.
All things considered, of all the sessions I've had at JR, versus the sessions I've had at DW, I've maybe been up a time or two from JR when walking out the door. In comparison:
I've been playing at DW quite a bit lately, and against a lot of different players. A lot of the regulars, and a lot of the non-regulars, and my win:session ratio there is about 9:1. Much different from JR. Most of my cashouts at DW have also been in the 4:1 and 5:1 on my money, which is much better than what I've ever been able to do at JR. I also believe that the players at DW are far more experienced than at JR. My game also seems to earn more at a table of experienced players, than at a table of n00bs.
Now, I also understand and lend some validity to the different style of game, and the style of game I personally play. I just don't see myself taking my cash down to JR to play that game knowing the action I get at DW.
There are other things about it as well that draw me to it over JR. DW is run by a guy / people who knows how to run a poker room, been in the business for some time, great staff all around, consistent rulings, well run, fast dealers, no weird / stupid rules, etc., most of which JR fails on.
It's Jan 1. I'll be back in the table action tonight.
I kept my promise.

I'll call you when I head up there.
Phil will spread anything as long as there are players.
(something JR would NEVER think of doing)
He'll play you $300/600 Heads up in Omaha if you got the jack. (serious)

I have to disagree about the consistancy of how they run the game at dw, One instance a player said raise after it had been raised once for twenty dollars, he tried to raise it 10 more, when he was told he had to at least double the bet he changed his mind, AND THEY LET HIM. I'm sorry if you say raise you have to raise. Of course i was the raiser and i had pocket kings and i wanted to reraise and of course one of the other callers had some kind of crap and hit two pair on the flop so you could see why it made me a little hot.
Granted JR is no better but i kind of put both places in the same boat of how the games are run. I prefer to play at JR for the simple fact that i feel you can push the players around a little bit more. DW has a lot of sherriffs who call with crap hands for the sake of not being bluffed off a hand and then for some reason they end up hitting.

Quads, I'll give you the nod on the fact that DW is managed much better than JR. It helps that it is (or at least was) poker only so they cater to the poker players and is run by a poker player. If it was closer, I'd likely frequent it more often.
Based on my couple of experiences up ther and many sessions at JR, the action is a lot the same much of the time and the table composition is pretty close most of the time. 2 or 3 competent players, a couple of weak players and a handful of maniacs. It hasn't been my experience that you can push the kids out of a lot of pots as PK has indicated; there might be one or two kids you can push around, but they are more likely to make abad call than to lay down an even marginal hand. The game plays very much like a 3/6 game in that respect.
True the age difference is huge between the two places and that will influence the way the money flows. A lot of the kids come up with a couple short nuy-ins, bust and run only to replaced by the next young gun. (Some of these kids do seem to have a lot of dough to burn though, which boggles my mind.) At DW, there tends to be more money per player so you can get the same loose fish to keep throwing money at the game. I agree that conventional wisdom prefers this, but my bigest problem players tend to be loose fish. I obviously need to figure out how to deal with bad players, but haven't found the secret yet.
My experience has been the opposite of Quads in the win ratios. Even though I've been going through a pretty shitty stretch right now, I did pretty well for several months earlier this year. True, I never bagged any "mortgage payments", but that's not really what I expect out of a poker session anyway. I've played three times at DW. The first night I did well, the other two I left muttering to myself. Three's not avery big sample, but despite liking the atmosphere of the place, the action isn't comfortable for ME.
And BTW, Jackson will spread just about any game if they have interest. they often try to get a 2/5 game going and sometimes do. Most of their players just don't come in looking for high stakes action.
Hope you guys knock 'em dead tonight.
I'm giving up poker for the rest of the year.
Shit! Did I miss the action on this one as well? Did ya make it through the final 5 hours and 37 minutes without an orbit?
