Bar 3-25

Does anyone have blue prints or instructions on a "HOW TO" build a Shuffleboard table? I want to make one, but it can't be regulation size, It can only be about 9' long at max! I need to know what material etc...from the ground up; and portable IF at all possible!?!? I am pretty handy and experienced with building material etc. so I want to tackle this at home in my garage.

If you're only build it to be 9' long, I'd start with 1X4 maple pieces, and glue them up in a jig or something that you build to keep everything together, clamped, glued, etc. It's going to take a bunch of clamps, as I'd probably glue it up all at once. Stand all the 1x4's on end once glued and then clamp them together in your jig. Once glued, depending on how straight or no, you can find a local shop that has a planner large enough to put the whole thing through, or you can use a router with a ski jig on top that will take the top 1/4" off and get it level, straight and true. Sand, pain, finish, etc.

I wonder how much a butcher block counter top would cost at ikea? I've been pondering the idea of a shuffleboard and this seems like the easiest way to go.

the grain in butcher block runs the wrong way for a shuffle board game. butcher block in end grain. you need the long grain for shuffle boards.

They don't use the end grain on their "butcher block" counters it's end to end. Plus the polyurethane would seal up any voids on an end grain type table top. ;)

A local hardwood supply company I've where I've bought some wood has a huge press for glueing up such a project. I wonder how much they'd charge for something like that? And they've got the planer too. That'd be the best way by far to get started. I'm looking for a game upstairs - maybe building this would be the ticket..... hmmm.

I see people selling sections of bowling alley lanes on craigslist a couple times a year. That might be an option. I thought about it for a bar top.
