I placed 4th in a tourney last night which qualified me to play for a seat at the 2006 WSOP Main Event. This final tourney is being played on July 22nd, or a week prior to the main event (meaning, I have time to prepare :D )
The site is Pokerpages.com. Like many sites, they have a free side (pokerpages and a school they are selling), and a for money side (bugsy's club). Games include mixed, 7cs (and variations), omaha (and variations) holdem and limit holdem.
Getting to the 'Seat Tourney" means you place above 40th in one of the first step tourneys AND place 4th or above in a second step tourney. There are also paid SNG's to get into the 2nd step tourney.
The first step tourneys can sometimes have over 1000 players, which is typically reduced to 200 within an hour, meaning you have to avoid the 'all in idiots' for a few rounds. Last nights 2nd Step tourney had ~350ish entrants and lasted almost 4 hours to my 4th place finish. Later stages in tourneys have quality play, and most of the 2nd step tourney was challenging.
This site offers big stack tourneys, with 5k and 10k starting stack sizes, and antes in later rounds. Interesting learning to manipulate a $700,000 stack or taking chips from the 700k stack without getting squashed.
Anyway - I now have my chance to get there.
