My first winning session of the year.

I've been playing 2 or three nights a week singe the new year and a few nights have had my ass handed to me, and a few others, just barely able to tread water.

Last night I rolled into Deuces Wild to catch the $5/10 NL game that runs there on Tuesday nights. The regular crowd wasn't there but there were enough other interested players in getting the game going with a minimum $500 buy in. A few cats from Reno rolled down for the game, and there was a 10 handed table before we knew it.

I love the blind levels and the action that $5/10 blinds bring. Either that, or a $2/5 with a 10 bring in, much like the Eldo does. At the height of the night, there was about 45 on the table and the action showed no signs of letting up any time soon. Playing at those levels (I think) you really have to be on your A game nad play poker. Sure, you can draw out on someone, and suck outs do happen, but they can be expensive for those that chose to play that style of game. Play solid poker, pick and choose your pots you get into and pay attention to the action.

We played until about 7AM when the game broke (started playing at 8PM) and I racked out of the game with $2200 from an initial $500 buy in.

If you get into the game and are looking for great action at those levels for your money, the game can be very profitable and at times very action based. People aren't afraid of getting money on the table, playing cards and pushing checks in the middle.

Phil (DW Owner) said he will host the $5/10 min $500 buy in every Tuesday night, so long as there are players there. This has become more an more popular with the regulars there and (as noted last night) several people that come in from a far to get in the game.

Check it out if you are able to!

So what is the YTD tally so far after the big win?

Still in the hole a touch, (or possibly just at even) but I can't look at it like that. I have to play on a session by session basis. What I did that was successful in that session, duplicate it, and move on to the next.

If I look at it like, "I have to get even" then I'll always dig deeper. I can't come away from a loosing session one night, and think or tell myself I'm coming back to get even. I need to look at it to see what my leak was in that loosing session, where my bad plays were, and learn from them. In the next session, I have to sit down and say "my goal is to clone this stack of chips" ....and then clone it again.

It's the way that I have found works best for managing short term and long term game sessions. Especially with how much I've been playing lately.

Ace,

You should really think about sitting in that Tuesday night game.

You are right. In the ideal world you should treat poker as a long term thing. Winning or losing sessions are just such, as long as you make right decisions (and hopefully) be a winner in the long run.

I would like to play some more poker by family obligations (especially on weeknights) prevent me from doing so. $5/$10 NL would be about the top of my comfort level. A BR of about $20,000 will probably be required if one were to play on the regular basis.

I plan on playing it every Tuesday. I love that game!
