Since the Friday game at Quads didn't materialize, I got a day pass to 2's Wild instead. They got a $220 buy in tourney every 2nd Sat. at 2. There were about 35 players. I maintained a small chip lead at the table early but as the blind levels escalated as we got to about 12 people I lost most of my stack holding KJ off in the BB versus QQ. I surrendered a few more blinds in a round or two with unplayable hands now I have barely enough for the BB as it came to me. I didn't look at my hand as 2 other players entered the pot with a small side pot checked all the way down to the river on a board of 65422 try to elimately me. They flipped over the cards to see who takes the side and both got A9. I slowly flipped my cards up one at a time. The 1st card was a 9, oh oh. The 2nd card was...a 6! I tripled up to about 2.5 times the BB.
I manage to limped to the final table as a short stack of 10 (not even enough to post the full BB as the blinds were raised) where orginally was schedule to pay just 6 places (from about $2,700 for 1st to $220 for 6th. There were other short stack at the table so everyone decided to the pay all 10 players (6th thru 10th all get $220 or their buy in back.) As the final table started I was in the cut off so with my short stack I was able to wait for a decent hand. However, I saw no pair and no ace, and no face cards in the next few hands and while 4 other small stacks got eliminated so I am actually in 6th place with the original 3,200 in chips (the blinds are $2K/$4K. Now it is my BB again and picked up Q9 off. One player raised in front of me and we are heads up. He shows QQ and I am a 9-1 dog. Flop comes J8x, turn comes 7 and river...a 10! I survived yet again.
To be continued...
Nice! You get a day pass, but didnt negociate the time it would take to report?
Dont leave us hanging! Howd you do Ace?

Well, as far as tourney is concerned there is not much more to report. With the lucky draw out there were no more miracles because I was still severely short stacked versus the 5 other remaining players (Although I jokingly said with the rate this is going I just might sneaked to 2nd place). Got busted out on the next hand I got involved (I think was Kx for me and Ax for the other player.) and got my $220 buy-in back (well, more or less, I tipped the dealer $10.)
Bought in for $200 and sat down right afterwards for the cash $2/$3 NL game (they have 3 tables going after the tourney.) On the first hand I was in the BB and got raised by CO (Who bought in for $100) for $3 more and called with K5 off. Called the raise 5 handed. Flop comes 955. Checked to the preflop raiser he bets $15 and I smooth called and we are heads up. Turn is a Jack and I bet $15 he called. River is a King I decided to go ahead and make another small bet of $20 and see what happens. He goes all in and I called immediately and showed me boat. He mucks and turned out he said he had QQ.
Next major hand I called with A5 spades a live $6 straddle in MP and was about 4 handed going into the flop. Flop: T76 with two spades. SB bets $10 and straddler UTG raised to $45. I called the the nut flush draw as SB folded. UTG had about $100 left and I had him covered. Turn was a red Queen UTG checks. I pretend to shove my whole stack and he gave away his intention by wanting to call. I checked instead to take a free card. River comes 10 of Spade and UTG goes all in immediately. Even though it paired the board I turned my cards over and called right away. He didn't show but I suspected he had at least 2 pairs or trip 10's.
Now I am up $300+ and got called to move to #2 table. Played a few orbits there with no significant changes to my stack (won a few, lost a few.) Got the button and found two black Aces. UTG, SB, and BB called. I just called. Flop: J53 r and I fired $15. Only BB called. Turned an 8 I bet $30 and he moved all in for about $60 more. I didn't like that at all and kinda blame myself for slow playing the rockets but the pot odds looks okay as long as he didn't have a set. I called a he had J5 for 2 pair. River missed me and I lost $100. The very next hand on BB I looked down and what do I see? 2 RED Aces (wow, back to back Aces is just under 50,000 to 1. I had it happened to me one other time in my life.) I smooth called btf again (didn't learn my lesson from the last hand. and we go to the flop 4 handed with the SB, BB and EP. Flop comes 3 spot cards but no possible straight with 2 clubs. Checked around to EP who bet $15, I c/r to $40 and SB and BB folded. EP goes all in about $55 more so I again faced similar position as the previous hand. I decided to call and he turns over 2 clubs without a pair for a flush draw (maybe a backdoor straight too.) Fortunately no help on turn and river and I basically broke even on the back to back Aces.
Now it's about 7:45 and Quads and Scooter walk in. They seemed surprise to see me and we exchange greetings. They both sat down on my table but I got called to the main game. Since my day passes expired at 9 I half-heartedly moved to the main table. 3 non-action hands later I cashed out for a $350 profit and said goodbye to my crew before arriving home at 8:55.
I don't think I would play in any more tourneys there because the blind structure is too fast and there is too much of a crap shoot, especially for $220 (which is no different than most other tourneys.) However, I think I will drop by for cash games from time to time (mostly on weekends.)

I wish you would have stuck around. I sat in the $2/3 game for a few and then they started the $500 buy in $5/10 blind NL game. That game was a gift shop.

Aww too bad! I was rooting for a chip and a chair story!

Quads, I am glad that you did well. (How about Scooter?) I will be going there again. I think the game there is easier to beat than at the Derby.
I thought they were going to start a $5/$10 game after that higher limit tourney (I brought close to $2K and ready to play). Since no one mentioned it I didn't think they were trying to start one. Maybe a high roller like you actively campaigning for the game got them to start the game.
Let's try to set up a $2/$5 game soon.

I got a call from Keith (the floor man) asking me if I was interested in that game. Hence, why I drove up there. If you are ever in question, ask the floorman and he'll get the game together. It would have been great to have you in that game. It was 6 handed with Keith filling in to keep the game running.
I bought in for $500 and built a stack to about $1900.
Phil is going to host that $500 game every Tuesday, so if you are looking for a solid game, head up there on Tuesday's.

As much as I like to play Tues. nights I probably won't be there that often. I will say less than 10% chance on any given Tuesdays.

Get a kitchen pass.
It's a gift shop.

Rolled into DW about 7:45 pm. Got seated on a 2/3 NL game. They kept trying to lure me over to the $5/10 game after it started, which did look like a fish tank, but I only had $600 cash on me, so I didn't want to be busted if i lost the $500 minimum buyin. I like to have enough scratch to rebuy 2x in a game (or at least once).
Black Widow joined me around 10pm. We stayed until about 2am. She bought in for $100, i bought in for $200. Neither of us rebought and ended up leaving with $1,100. Two drunk brothers came in around midnight. Pretty funny guys to have at the table, but fairly fishy.
When i left, some old guy on the $5/10 table had about $4000 in front of him. (Quads, are you missing any green chips?)
I like the cash game at DW. It can vary a lot from night to night and even hour to hour. One or two loose players can really loosen up the table. I might have to move to Auburn soon as I'm kinda sick of the 40 minute drive up there, which is becoming a regular event on the weekends.
Lots of poker this past weekend. Spent all friday night playing cards in Tahoe at Harvey's until 8:00 am. Built up a nice stack, only to loose some of it after flopping a set a jacks and then having some dipshit from New York suck out on me with a gutshot on the turn.

Good job, HP and BW. As long as the game is good, you shouldn't worry about the drive time. It takes me about 30+ minutes to get there too.
You are right about not going to the $5/$10 game with just over the buy in. I usually want to bring 4x the buy in instead of 2x to feel comfortable.

agreed. the drive is closer to 50 min for me, but the action is ALWAYS good up there.
I typically like to have 2x min buyin for a NL game. i'm thinking about sitting down at that 5/10 game, based on what quads said i think i could probably hold my own... even though my game has been strongest at limit right now... ive been cleaning up 9/18 at cap, 10/20 at auburn, and i even played 20/40 (10/20 that changed) this week at peppermill. go limit!
