I recall from the "other" place that we had a thread goign about martinis (I am referring here to a drink made with gin, not its vodka derivative).
I prefer mine very dry (no vermouth, or vermouth pour over the ice and them dumped) and very dirty (olive brine), but here's my difficulty: I don't really like olives. Like at all.
It's very strange, I use olive oil exclusively in cooking and for dipping breads in, I like tapenade, and, of course, olive brine in my martinis. It's not a texture issue, it really is taste. They are terrible, no matter what they are stuffed with.
Anyway, to buy olive brine for the martinis (especially at the rate and volumes I drink them in) was an expensive proposition. Only afew liquor stores sold the brine separately and even the generic olives are $4-5 for 8-12ozs and I throw the olives away. So I turned to the interrubes and had a very good experience here: http://www.olive-bar.com/
I ordered a case of 33 oz jars of olive brine (each with 3-8 olives in it) and it lasted me a full year. I reordered a few weeks ago, and the case showed up and was left on the porch for 1.5 days in the heat, contaminating every jar with some sort of growth (which I discovered after I made my first martini...). I called the company on a Saturday morning, and a human being picked up!
I explained my problem, and he groused that the delivery company (UPS) is not suppose to leave food out and the order form had been marked as such. He told me he would take care of it, and the new case shipped right away.
I highly recommend the site for cost, taste, and service!
Now excuse me while I go mix another...
