Alrighty, after some a few problems getting the pictures up properly (I'm sure the hangover was the cause of the issues), here they finally are.

Unfortunately, I didn't get any 'before' pictures. I really should have done that because it's come a loooooong way from what it used to be.

I plan to put a wetbar down there at some point, but seeing as I've been laid-off since March, I'm gonna have to do that one later.

Thanks guys.

1. Yeah, they're Paulson Pharaohs that I use for my tournies. I run one once a month, and had 22 out yesterday. Finished 2nd when my AQ ran into AA. doh.

2. The flooring is actually laminate. It's a black walnut. I would have liked to put down actual hardwood, but with my monthly game, I didn't want to have to worry about people beating the shit out of the floor. The laminate is far more durable, and looks just as nice IMO.

3. GO HABS GO!

That's one sweet room. You fuckers with your basements. Makes me jealous. I'd pitch a tent in my pants, if I had a place like that to play.

Wrong team though - GO AVS!!

The laminate flooring is great, I actually prefer it to hardwood floors. Looks almost as nice (depending on what you get) and it stands up to anything.

I really like the flooring - walnut is just a classy looking wood.

Thanks for the compliments guys. :)

I grabbed the chairs from a lady on kijiji.ca (pretty much the same as Craiglist, but a little slicker IMO). I saw them online, and went to her 'showroom' which turns out was a room in her house, and she sells the stuff out of her garage. Got them for $60 a piece, and they are comfortable as hell. Very cushy seats. They are made in China (no surprise there), but I was very surprised how solid they were when I was putting them together). THe same chairs at Costco and other furniture stores up here sell for $100-$130 a piece. I was very happy to find these.

Well, I was going to post a couple pictures of the finished garage/poker room, but I'm not following this act. Nice spot, Jrees!

Looks great Jrees. Not a big hockey fan, but I love the color combos in the room and the table/chair setup.

Hmmmm....I'm guessing from your pictures that your first name is either Guy or Maurice...my only question is, why no Roy, Venzina, Toe, or "Boom Boom" nostalgia. Also, when is the damn NHL going to bring back proper names back to hockey, such as, The Prince of Wales and Campbell Conferences? I miss my childhood of shoveling for hours to make a rink to kick some ass without pads.

jrees
09-29-2008, 01:01 PM
I've got 3 or 4 Roy pieces down there, but I have a greater love for the old school stuff. I'm only 33 now, so I grew up watching the Habs of the 1980's, but there's something about the 'mystique' of Maurice Richard, and the players from that era. The vast majority is comprised of Richard pieces, but I have a sweet Plante picture, some Beliveaus on display, and a lot of other stuff tucked away that I just don't have the room to display. I need a bigger basement dammit.

I wish Bettman didn't get hired and rip some of the traditions out of the league. I miss the old division names more than anything. Long live the Adams division!

Great setup - I love the addition of the seat from the Forum. I assume that's from the Forum?

Nice table setup too!

jrees

Thanks for the props.

Yeah, it's a seat from the forum. It's signed by Richard, LaFleur and Beliveau (the 500 goal scorers for the Habs).

It appears somebody has swapped a couple of the photos in my basement though ;)

That ceiling is fantastic - is that pressed tin? Did you do it yourself?

jrees
11-04-2008, 07:07 PM
Nah, it's not pressed tin, but it replicates it pretty nicely. It's just textured wallpaper that I grabbed from HD. It went on pretty easily (first time I ever wallpapered), and I then painted it with a semi-gloss white.

Luckily, the ceiling is not too high, and I could do it without getting on a ladder. If I had to climb a ladder, it would have been hell.

I was in Montreal last weekend for the 99th anniversary of the Habs first game vs. the Rangers. They opened up Centennial Plaza that day, and I got to see the brick I ordered. It was a little expensive, but being the nut that I am, I had to buy one, and the most expensive one at that. Location, location, location.

Here are a few pics from the weekend (I should have gone down the next day and got some better pics, but the girlfriend and I didn't leave the hotel much ;)

And this pic kinda turned out shitty cause my photographer didn't tell me it looked like I was pointing at the wrong fucking brick. :(

Wow Rees....Im speechless. True class that room. I can't imagine the amount of money thats tied up in those priceless memorabilia. Pointed it out to a few fellow Habs fans in our canadian poker forum:

Thanks Dave!

The money tied up in the jerseys and chairs ain't all that bad actually....got the three jerseys about 15 years ago for $500CDN for all 3. The chair was bought in the late 90s, and was $600 USD. Needless to say, they ain't making any more Richard's. ;)
